Classic calligraphy

rhythm and formal shape studies

calligraphy selection 046

The importance of practicing «classic calligraphy» is in dealing with black and white spaces, or learning about rhythm and harmony of shapes. The repetitive task of drawing letter after letter can be frustrating but it is also freeing and can be meditative. The goal is mastering the pen, like a musician will rehearse known pieces to perfection, which helps him control his instrument without the added factor of having to compose something.
